Simple, delicious straight-up comfort food is what’s happening on Midweek Menu #49. A fresh salad, along with a rich, easy-to-make soup, homemade bread, and a new spin on a classic dessert make this family dinner menu something special.
Dinner time. For some, those words are not welcome at the end of a busy day. For me, those are words I look forward to hearing since cooking dinner has always been a thing of pleasure and enjoyment whether it’s for 2, 4, or a table full of people.
Over the years and all the dinners, I’ve made have been woven into beautiful memories. That’s where this whole journey of pulling together just one menu, that, can help others get a home-cooked meal on the table began. Each week while creating and writing Midweek Menu I think back on so many of those times and smile.
There are a few reasons dinner time has become successful for me –
- I keep things simple. I cook food with seasonal ingredients that I can readily buy in the grocery store.
- Not only that, but I make recipes that I know my family will like. That means, while I’ve always introduced new recipes at dinnertime, they are made with ingredients that I know “my people” like.
- It’s been very important to get everyone involved. Now, that’s not necessarily with cooking, but the whole process of making time at the table special. My sons set the table, remove plates and napkins at the end of the meal and take out the trash. I’m the cook and Mr. SS always is the chief in charge of the dishwasher. It works…it works very, very well.
- I make things fun. Discussion is open, free and opinions are welcome. Humor is required, and we all leave with a full belly and a happy heart.
I hope this gives you a little glimpse of what it’s like around my family table, and I hope you’ll give this special time a try for your family.
