Whole Wheat Applesauce Muffins

Whole wheat, applesauce muffins are tender and soft with loads of flavor so that you'd never know they are healthy!

  • 1/2 cup butter - softened
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 2 eggs - room temperature
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 and 3/4 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup butter - melted
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon


  • Heat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Using a hand or stand mixer, cream together sugar and butter. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well. Add in applesauce and vanilla, mix.
  • In a separate bowl, sift together flour, baking powder and salt. Combine dry ingredients with wet and mix until incorporated. Spoon into muffin tin that has been coated with non-stick spray. Bake for 15 minutes (test for doneness with a toothpick inserted into middle of muffin.) Remove muffins from pan and cool.
  • Mix together sugar and cinnamon. Dip each muffin into melted butter then into cinnamon sugar. Makes 12 muffins.
