Beautiful, crimson red, blood oranges and bubbly, cool Prosecco turn a classic cocktail into something unexpectedly wonderful. These easy to make, Blood Orange Mimosas are perfect for entertaining, celebrations or maybe just enjoying a special day.
If you’ve ever tasted a blood orange, you’ll get why I decided to change up the traditional mimosa recipe made with OJ. Blood oranges are juicy, sweet with a bit of tartness. They are only available December through April so you might want to mark your calendar, like I do, to make sure you grab a few bags to enjoy before they disappear. I really like the slightly bitter flavor they have and I really love the deep, rich, red color that comes out when they are sliced or juiced. This recipe, well, I guess it’s a recipe, comes together in no time which is one of the reasons it’s great for entertaining. There’s no tedious mixing or measuring needed so you get to spend more time with your friends and family. To make these beautiful, refreshing drinks, gather a cutting board, sharp knife, a juicer and champagne glasses. Slice each blood orange in half and squeeze out the juice.
Add about 3 tablespoons of juice into each glass then top off will chilled Prosecco. That’s it! Your special cocktail is now ready to serve. These drinks are not only pretty, they are refreshing, too. I think they would be wonderful served at a brunch or luncheon. Since they are made with just two ingredients, you also get to stretch your budget a little. Another tip is to use Proscecco which tends to be less expensive than Champagne.
This past Friday, I served this these mimosas to celebrate a few things…it was Friday and the sun was shinning. Also, Mr. A Southern Soul’s birthday was the next day and that was a great reason to celebrate. See, for me, entertaining and making things special for those I love is not about a made up date on the calendar. It’s about acknowledging the little things in life and celebrating them. So, here’s to the little and sometimes big things in life…cheers, friends!
