Tater Tots loaded with bacon and cheese then baked to perfection are an unexpected snack that will have you coming back for more. Add some cool sour cream for dipping and you’ve got a fun, little bite for game day or for when it’s time to entertain.
Over the past year, tater tots seemed to have taken over the world, at least the foodie world, that is. If you’ve not seen all of the incredibly yummy casseroles made from tater tots, then you’ve missed out. At first, I thought it was kind of weird that folks were using those little pillows of potato as a base for so many praiseworthy recipes but then, after some thought, I totally get it. It makes sense to use tater tots as a vehicle for so many other good ingredients including bacon and cheese!
These Loaded Tater Tot Bites are super easy to make and you’ll be stunned at how good they are. Now, of course, everything is better with bacon but there’s a couple of other things that make this appetizer special. First, of course, is the fact that we’re essentially making a stuffed baked potato with tater tots. I KNOW. This recipe is so crazy that I’m actually cracking up as I write this post, but we’ve got to stay focused because you’re really gonna love how these little bites turn out.
To whip these babies up just grab a bag of your favorite tater tots and some toothpicks. After a bit of cooking, you’ll skewer two of the tots onto one pick and then sprinkle with seasoning salt. I used a combination of my House Seasoning and Homemade Montreal Steak Seasoning to give the potatoes lots of flavor.
Next, you’ll add on cheese and bacon, then bake ’em in the oven, again, until golden brown. Last of all, pile all the yummy bites on to a platter and serve with cool, sour cream or ranch dressing. That’s it. An appetizer that has “you’re gonna love this” written all over it! Sometimes it’s worth paying attention to trends.
