What Is Pico De Gallo?
Pico de Gallo, literally translated means “rooster’s beak,” is an uncooked salsa known as a salsa fresca, in Spanish. It can be served as a dip, or a topping for tacos, enchiladas, burritos, nachos, eggs, or salads. It’s also fantastic spooned over grilled fish, chicken, beef, or pork.

Ingredients Needed To Make Pico De Gallo
- Tomatoes – Roma tomatoes, Plum tomatoes, grape, or cherry tomatoes will work in this recipe.
- Onions – white onions are the traditional choice, but you can substitute yellow onions or red onions if needed.
- Jalapeños – serrano peppers can be used as well.
- Cilantro – if you don’t care for cilantro, you can use parsley
- Limes-fresh lime juice is essential in this recipe

How To Make The Best Pico De Gallo
- In a large bowl, combine the diced tomatoes, chopped onion, minced jalapeño pepper, and chopped cilantro.
- Squeeze the juice of 1 lime over the mixture.
- Add salt to taste.
- Stir well to combine all the ingredients.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to let the flavors marry.
