When it comes to soups, I don’t care if they are creamy, chunky, or made with a simple, flavorful broth; I’ll take them all! Nothing is more comforting than a big bowl of hot soup and some crusty bread, especially on a chilly evening.

My Crock Pot Potato Soup recipe inspired this slow cooker soup creation. My new recipe, Ham and Potato Soup, is loaded with carrots, celery, and ham. I added a little decadence with half-and-half and sour cream on a whim. The outcome? A rich, creamy, delicious soup that gives you huge rewards with very little work.

This recipe is even easier with the right equipment! Discover my top slow cooker recommendations and make your cooking effortless.

Toppings Ideas

Add some texture and additional flavor with your favorite toppings. Here are a few of my favs:

  • Cheese – cheddar cheese is fantastic, but you can sprinkle on any cheese you like.
  • Cooked, crumbled bacon, and sour cream are classics.
  • Chopped fresh parsley, green onions, or chives.

  1. Do I mash all the potatoes? Because I like it to eat potato chunks, but I also want to keep the thick consistency. Help!

  2. 5 stars
This is delicious. It has a wonderful creamy texture and loads of flavor. I made this, on the stove versus the crockpot, it was spur of moment with only 3 hours to spare for a simmer, not 7 tonget a full crockpot slow cook experience–know it works well either way. I followed it the recipe as recommended, except I had a ham bone to add, which is always a great way to go. I chose this recipe over some others because of the heaping dollop of sour cream in the ingredients. That I knew would be so so good!!! Making her cornbread to go with the leftovers. Can’t wait!
