Every year, to honor Memorial Day, my family goes to a flag raising service presented by the local Veterans of Foreign Wars. Then, we do what so many others around the country do, we get together to share a wonderful meal that has all our favorite “cookout” dishes. We tell stories of what we like about his important day and proudly fly our flag.

Memorial Day is extra special because if we do this right, we actually stop and acknowledge those brave men and women who gave their lives for freedom. To be clear, I am so very thankful that I get to stay in my own little world that is comfortable, happy, loving and bright with dreams and plans for a wonderful future. Our family is full of rich history of those who have served from my husbands relatives, along with mine and now our son. So, with these humble words, I hope we can take some time to remember this special day, not as the start of summer or just a three-day weekend but as the important day that it is and celebrate all the good things it represents.
