I made this for our neighborhood cookie exchange and it disappeared before I even had a chance to taste it myself! Every single person asked me for the recipe. I came home, made a second batch for my family, and it was just as perfect. This is my forever holiday dip.

Some Recipes Are Just Pure, Simple Joy

This creamy chocolate dip is exactly that. It’s one of those recipes I come back to again and again — during the holidays when I need something I can pull together fast, at the last-minute get-together when I realize I haven’t made a dessert, or honestly, on a Tuesday afternoon when the family needs something sweet and special.
This chocolate dip is a velvety, fluffy blend of cream cheese, melted chocolate chips, and fresh whipped cream — and it comes together in about 10 minutes. Serve it at your next party and watch it vanish.
What I love most about it is how it feels indulgent without being fussy. It looks like something you worked on all morning, but you and I both know the truth. It’s our little secret.
XO,

Donya’s Best Tips for Perfect Chocolate Dip
- Soften your cream cheese the right way. Don’t rush this step. Cold cream cheese will leave you with lumps no amount of stirring can fix. Place the sealed block in a bowl of warm (not hot) water for about 15 minutes. It softens beautifully every time.
- Whip your cream to soft peaks — not stiff. You want light and airy, but still just a little glossy and soft. Soft peaks hold their shape gently when the beaters are lifted.
- Fold, don’t stir. Once your whipped cream is ready, fold it in using a rubber spatula in slow, gentle turns from the bottom up.
- Let the melted chocolate cool slightly before adding. If you pour hot chocolate straight into the cream cheese, it can seize up or melt your fluffy texture. Give it a couple of minutes first.
- You’ll know it’s ready when it holds a soft swirl. Spoon a little onto a plate. It should mound gently and hold a soft shape without spreading flat.

Ingredients You’ll Need
- Cream cheese — The rich, tangy backbone. Gives the dip that thick, luscious body that makes it feel almost like a mousse.
- Powdered sugar — Dissolves silkily, sweetening without any graininess.
- Vanilla extract — A warm, fragrant note that rounds out the deep chocolate flavor. Don’t skip it.
- Semi-sweet chocolate chips — Melted down into glossy, deep chocolate richness.
- Heavy whipping cream — What makes the dip light and fluffy. Whipped to soft peaks and gently folded in, it transforms the whole texture.
Make It Your Own: Fun Variations
- Go dark chocolate. Swap for bittersweet or 70% dark chocolate chips for a more intense, grown-up dip.
- Add a peanut butter swirl. Drizzle a couple of spoonfuls of creamy peanut butter across the top and swirl in with a knife.
- Make it minty fresh. Add a quarter teaspoon of pure peppermint extract to the cream cheese mixture.
- Try white chocolate. Replace with melted white chocolate chips for a sweet, vanilla-forward version.
- Dress it up for the holidays. Top with crushed candy canes for Christmas, mini pastel M&Ms for Easter, or cocoa powder and chocolate curls anytime.
- Make it mocha. Dissolve half a teaspoon of instant espresso powder into the melted chocolate before blending it in.

How To Make Creamy Chocolate Dip
- Whip the heavy cream into soft peaks with a hand mixer or whisk.
- Melt the chocolate chips and blend the sugar and cream cheese together in another bowl.
- Finish up by mixing everything together with a splash of vanilla, and you’re ready to serve.
Make-Ahead and Storage Tips
Make up to 48 hours in advance. Cover tightly with plastic wrap pressed directly against the surface, and refrigerate. Give it a gentle stir before serving. Refrigerator storage: up to 4 days in an airtight container. Do not freeze — the whipped cream texture doesn’t hold up after thawing.
