Slow Cooker Potatoes: Comfort Food Perfection
We can all agree that potatoes are one of the most beloved comfort foods, regardless of season or occasion. There’s nothing like a warm bowl of my Crock Pot Potato Soup, and my family raves about my Stuffed Baked Potatoes. And, for an easy side for a weeknight meal, I always turn to Air Fryer Baked Potatoes.
While there are TONS of ways to cook potatoes, I rarely hear about people using their slow cookers. After some thought and planning, I decided to give this no-nonsense way of cooking potatoes a go. WOW! This is seriously one of the easiest ways to bake potatoes, and they are absolutely delicious.
Ingredients For The Easiest Crock Pot Baked Potatoes
- 4-6 russet baking potatoes (or however many will fit in your crock pot)
- 2-3 teaspoons olive oil (½ teaspoon per potato)
- 1-1 ½ teaspoons kosher salt (¼ teaspoon per potato)
- Aluminum foil (to wrap each potato individually)
- Optional toppings (shredded cheddar cheese, bacon, sour cream, and chives)
What Are The Best Potatoes To Use For This Recipe?
I always use Russet potatoes for “baking” because they cook up nice and fluffy. If you want to use a different type of potato, I recommend using Yukon gold or yellow potatoes, which are just as yummy.
How To Make Crock Pot Baked Potatoes
- Prep your potatoes by washing and drying them. Prick the potato with a fork, place it in the center of the foil, drizzle with ½ teaspoon olive oil, and sprinkle with ¼ teaspoon kosher salt.
- Rub the salt and oil over the surface of the potato, then wrap it tightly with the tin foil, and place it in your slow cooker.
How Long To Cook Potatoes In The Crock Pot
Cook the potatoes on high for 4 to 5 hours or low heat for 8 to 10 hours, until soft and tender. Do not overcook, or the potatoes may become soggy. Test the potatoes with a fork or knife to ensure they are cooked to your desired level of tenderness.
To serve, remove and carefully unwrap (the potatoes will be hot). Cut a slit in each potato, serve with butter, salt and pepper, or make a loaded baked potato with toppings of your choice.
Questions And Answers About Slow Cooker Potatoes?
I use a 6-quart or 8-quart crockpot which will hold anywhere from 4 to 8 potatoes, depending on their size.
You don’t have to, but I prefer it for this cooking method. Like oven-baked potatoes, aluminum foil can help transfer heat more quickly, leading to faster cooking times.
Because a potato is composed mainly of water, poking them helps release steam, so as it cooks, it produces a fluffier, lighter texture.
Yes. Cooked potatoes can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 4 days in an airtight container and frozen for up to 3 months.
Yep, sweet potatoes turn out great! Once they are done, top them with butter, cinnamon, and a drizzle of honey.
How To Make The Best Baked Potato Bar
- Warm potatoes: keep the potatoes warm by placing them in the crock pot and using the KEEP WARM setting.
- Baked potato bar toppings: favorites like cheddar cheese, cooked bacon, sour cream, chopped chives, or green onions, are always yummy. But you can also think outside the box and consider providing steamed broccoli, cheese sauce, Pico de Gallo, award-winning Southern Soul Chili, olives, Shredded Mexican Beef, and/or Carolina Gold BBQ Sauce.
- Serving made easy: position everything on your table, starting with the potatoes and the line of topping options, making sure everything has its own fork or spoon.
What to Serve with Crock Pot Baked Potatoes
Take the baked potato bar route, and you’ve got yourself a complete meal but don’t stop there. Here are a few must-try ideas for serving these yummy spuds:
- Easy Weeknight Dinners – Crock Pot Beef Roast, Marry Me Chicken, or Easy Marinated London Broil.
- Sunday Supper – Balsamic Glazed Pork Roast, Crock Pot Chicken Thighs.
- Holiday Celebrations – Brown Sugar Mustard Baked Ham, Simple Delicious Oven Roasted Turkey.
