It’s almost fall. Almost. Even though it’s not really cool enough to bust out a cozy sweater, I am ready! And you know with “all things fall” comes lots of great comfort food.
Apple Cinnamon Pull-Apart Bread is one of those recipes that epitomize fall. It has a warm spice flavor from cinnamon and nutmeg, along with one of the season’s favorite fruits, apple. Everything gets stacked together, baked, then drizzled with a sweet glaze. It’s absolute perfection.
What You Need To Make This Recipe
- Canned Biscuits – whatever brand you like.
- Apple – I used Honeycrisp
- Sugar
- Butter
- Cinnamon
- Nutmeg
- Salt
- Confectioners Sugar
- Milk
- Vanilla
What Type Of Apple Work Best In This Recipe?
The type of apples that work best are ones that are firm and dense, just like the apples I use in my Skillet Cinnamon Apples. I like to use Honeycrisp. I’ve also used Granny Smith apples, which have a slightly tart flavor. You can also mix the type of apples depending on what you have on hand.
Pro Tip #1: cook the apples until they are tender but not mushy. You want them to have a bit of a “bite” before layering them in the bread.
How To Make Apple Cinnamon Pull Apart Bread
This impressive-looking bread looks like it might be hard to make, but the opposite is true. There are four steps to making this recipe successful:
- Make the apple filling by cooking the apples.
- Slice the biscuits in half, lengthwise, fill with the cooked apple mixture, stack and place in a loaf pan.
- Bake the pull-apart bread, then let cook.
- Make the sweet vanilla glaze and drizzle over the bread.
As my ingredients started to cook, my house filled with warm, comforting smells. Once your bread comes out of the oven, and you’ve drizzled on the sweet vanilla glaze, you are ready to enjoy!
What Size Pan Is Recommended For This Recipe?
I use a metal 9×5 pan. You can use smaller pans, like the metal ones found in the grocery store, but you’ll need to divide the loaf in half.
Pro Tip #2: make sure that when stacking the loaf that each end has biscuits without filling touching the end of the pan.

Ingredients
- 1 can large “Grands” biscuits – buttermilk, butter or original
Filling
- 2 medium Honeycrisp apples, finely chopped- other varieties work well too
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- ¼ teaspoon nutmeg
- pinch salt
Glaze
- 1 cup confectioners sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk
- ½ teaspoon vanilla
Instructions
- Add apples, butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg and salt to a medium sauce pan set to medium heat. Cook, stirring occasionally until apples are tender but not mushy. Turn off heat and let cool.
- Heat oven to 350 degrees. Prepare a 9X5 inch loaf pan with cooking spray.
- Using a sharp knife, slice each biscuit in half, horizontally. Spoon about a tablespoon of apple filling onto each half. Stack 4 biscuit halves on top of teach other.
- Place stacks in loaf pan, making sure that each end has biscuits without filling touching end of pan. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove foil and continue to cook for approximately 5 – 8 minutes until top of bread is golden brown. Cool for 5 minutes then remove from pan.
- Whisk together confectioners sugar, milk and vanilla. Drizzle over bread.

OMG, this looks so good. I love Grands biscuits and will probably use the “flakey” ones. I’m sure my picky family will LOVE this. Thanks for sharing! <3

I made this but I’m a little confused about stacking the biscuits. The one in picture doesn’t look like mine. I split the biscuits put the apples on them & put in loaf pan. Followed directions for cooking but center wasn’t completely done. Looks like yours is a wider than mine which would make it cool more even.
Thank you for sharing with us. Have enjoyed many of your recipes Thank you for your help. Want to make again but would like for it to be completely done. Carolyn
