In This Post
This easy broccoli salad with cauliflower recipe has become one of my number-one picks for a quick and easy salad. It’s similar to Cranberry Pecan Slaw, which combines a little bit of sweetness and saltiness along with a whole lot of crunch. As an added benefit to this lighted-up version of a veggie salad, it gets better the longer the ingredients get to marinate, making it the perfect make-ahead dish.
What Makes This Simple Vegetable Salad So Good?
- It’s fresh with crispy, crunchy veggies.
- Comes together quickly with only 5 ingredients.
- Can be made ahead of time and gets better the longer it marinates.
- Has a light creamy dressing with just the right amount of tanginess.
- Can be served as a side dish or makes a great meal on its own.
Broccoli And Cauliflower Salad Ingredients?
- Cauliflower and Broccoli: Broccoli florets and cauliflower florets are the star of the show and are high in fiber and potassium.
- Green Onions: These are chopped and contribute to a nice hint of onion flavor but aren’t too overbearing.
- Dried Cranberries: Cranberries always make the perfect addition to salads when looking for the right sweetness.
- Cooked Bacon: Chopped bacon turns an ordinary vegetable salad into a Southern broccoli salad (we love our bacon!) that’s loaded with flavor and texture!
- Sour Cream, Mayonnaise, Lemon Juice, & Honey: These ingredients combined create a creamy dressing that pairs perfectly with all of the other flavors.
- Seasonings: Salt and black pepper are the only seasonings needed to top off this delicious salad.
Yummy Substitutions and Additions
- Nuts, like sunflower seeds, toasted almonds, walnuts, or pecans
- Shredded cheddar cheese, mozzarella, or Colby jack sprinkled in are great for an added touch of creaminess.
- Raisins, dried cherries, or red onion for texture and flavor.
- Add kick and crunch by adding purple onion and a tang with apple cider vinegar or red wine vinegar.
- Change up the dressing with plain Greek yogurt and Dijon mustard or use my Creamy Vinaigrette.
How To Cut Broccoli Florets For Salad
- Cut a couple of inches from the broccoli stalk.
- Hold the broccoli with the stem facing up on the cutting board, then using a knife, make downward cuts, separating the florets from the stem.
- Slice each floret in half or thirds until you get the size you want for your salad.
How To Make This Easy Broccoli Cauliflower Salad Recipe
- First, chop the broccoli and cauliflower into bite-size pieces. Chop the onion and place all the veggies in a large bowl.
- Fry the bacon, and once it’s cooled, chop it into small pieces. Add it along with the cranberries to the bowl.
Creamy Broccoli Salad Dressing
This simple broccoli salad dressing comes together in just minutes! Add all the ingredients to a jar with a lid or small bowl. Shake or whisk to combine all the ingredients. Pour the dressing over the salad ingredients, add salt and pepper to taste, give everything a toss, and then pop it in the fridge to chill.
Questions And Answers
Nope, that’s not needed. Cooking the cauliflower and broccoli will make this salad soggy, and that’s not what you want at all!
I recommend making this the night before so that the vegetables have time to soak in the dressing before serving.
None. I use lemon juice in this recipe for a bright, fresh taste. You can substitute apple cider vinegar or champagne vinegar if you like.
You could try maple syrup, agave, or sugar as a substitute. The flavor will be slightly different, but it will give it that same sweet kick.
How To Store Leftovers
Pour any remaining salad into an airtight container and keep in the fridge for up to 4 days. Take the salad out of the fridge about 30 minutes before serving and toss to combine any dressing that may have settled.
What To Serve With Broccoli Cauliflower Salad
This is one of my go-to salads for family gatherings and potlucks. It’s the perfect side dish with Oven Fried Chicken, Crock Pot Pulled Pork, or Roast Beef And Cheese Sliders. I love turning it into a main dish salad by adding leftover Crock Pot Turkey Breast or Cajun Garlic Shrimp.
