I’m a salad gal through and through, so over the years, I’ve perfected a variety of salad dressings to really bring to life all the fresh veggies. Getting the right balance of these two can be a bit tricky, but just like my Tomato Cucumber Salad, with the right combination of ingredients, you can achieve a salad recipe that’s equal parts masterpiece and deliciousness.
You Need Fresh Herbs And Salt
Many folks focus on the vegetables when making a salad and salad dressing, and just use a store-bought dressing. But the key to a great salad is two things: fresh herbs and salt. So while you might be tempted to use dried herbs, opt for fresh herbs and salting to taste, and you’ll be amazed at the difference in flavor!
What You’ll Need To Make A Spicy Cucumber Salad
- Fresh Cucumbers – choose English cucumbers for a less bitter and softer skin.
- Fresh Grape Tomatoes – standard cherry tomatoes are fine, or you can use yellow Sunbursts for more sweetness.
- Red Onion – if raw onions are too strong for you, drop the slices in water while you chop the rest of the vegetables.
- Feta Cheese – I use the block and crumble it with a fork.
- Fresh Parsley – a must for any great salad!
- Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegar – pick a good quality oil and vinegar since this is the base of the dressing.
- Seasoning – the easiest way to season dressing is with solid seasonings like Dan-O’s Spicy Seasoning and Dan-O’s Original Seasoning.
- Lemon Juice, Sugar, Salt, and Pepper
Keep It Simple And Use A Mason Jar
Use a mason jar to blend the dressing. Add all the ingredients to the jar, screw on the lid and give it a good shake. This is the best method for getting a smooth, well-blended dressing. Plus, there’s less cleanup!
How To Make Spicy Cucumber Tomato Salad
- Slice the cucumber, tomatoes and onions. Break up the block of Feta Cheese and chop the parsley.
- Add all the ingredients for the dressing to a mason jar. Screw on the top and shake until well combined.
- Add the veggies to a bowl and pour on ½ of the dressing. Toss, then add the Feta and parsley. Add in a bit more dressing, toss again and serve.
Donya’s Success Tip
Use a sharp knife! When you’re chopping so many vegetables, it’s critical to have a sharp knife for even knife cuts. The main reason people cut themselves while chopping is because of a dull knife, not one that’s properly sharpened.
What To Serve With Spicy Cucumber Tomato Salad
This salad goes with everything, but my family really loves it with crock pot chicken thighs and air fryer hot dogs for an easy dinner. But if you’re headed to a cookout, bring this tomato salad alongside BBQ chicken legs or hamburger hobo dinner foil packs.
Common Questions And Answers
You can substitute red wine vinegar or apple cider vinegar. Both work well.
You can use any type of tomato. Just make sure when you are making the salad to cut them into bite-sized pieces
Absolutely! It’s actually better after the ingredients have had time to marinate.

I just love your recipes…. my husband and I live on social security… can you please tell me what kind of spice’s/herb’s I can use instead of the ones in the recipe? I can’t afford the Dan’s seasoning…
Hey there Jo!
Thank you so much for your interest in my recipes, I am so happy to hear that you want to give this salad a try! Honestly, most of the flavor in this dish comes from the fresh ingredients, and I actually have a different version of this recipe that’s very similar but it doesn’t have any Dan-O’s in it, I’ll put the link at the bottom of this comment. My traditional Tomato Cucumber Salad recipe leans into the Italian flavors more, so you can use any brand of Italian seasoning you can find, and then the other spices are just salt and pepper. Let me know if you ever have any other questions, I’m happy to help. I’d love to hear how everything turns out if you give it a try, I really hope you enjoy the recipe!

While I would like to try your Spicy Tomato and Cucumber Salad recipe, I cannot because you do not offer substitute ingredients for your sponsor’s untenably high-priced spices plus shipping costs.
