This simple recipe with a fancy name has become my go-to on the weekends. I’ve put a Southern spin on a classic frittata by adding pork sausage, and my husband and I are slightly obsessed with it.

What Is A Frittata?

First off, a frittata is not an omelet or quiche with crust. It’s an Italian egg dish similar to a deconstructed omelet. The whisked egg mixture, usually filled with veggies, meat, or cheese, starts on the stove top and then finishes in the oven or under the broiler until lightly golden brown.

It’s light and fluffy, and as a bonus, my recipe is gluten-free and low carb. I don’t follow any formal diet, but this is an easy gluten free breakfast recipe that fuels me up and keeps me feeling good all morning long.

  • Butter- Adds a rich and velvety touch to the dish, bringing unmistakable Southern comfort to each bite.
  • Onion- Sautéed to add a sweet and savory flavor that blends amazingly well with the sausage and eggs.
  • Eggs- These are the show’s stars and help bind everything together.
  • Parmesan cheese- Sprinkled generously, it brings a nutty and salty kick.
  • Sausage- The Southern addition that adds a nice meaty flavor and texture.
  • Salt and Pepper- Added to bring all the flavors together.

The beauty of a frittata lies in its simplicity and adaptability. You can throw in almost any leftovers you have in the fridge, making it a fantastic option for a quick and nutritious meal.

  • Add vegetables like sauteed mushrooms, spinach, red or green peppers, and diced sweet potatoes.
  • Change out the pork sausage for chorizo, bacon, or diced ham.
  • Cheddar cheeses, feta, goat cheese, and pepper jack are also great additions.
