My son wanted to make something for his girlfriend’s family for Christmas. This was perfect. He mastered it easily and they all enjoyed snacking on them over the holidays. We even had all the ingredients around the house so there were no lat minute store runs. It’s a perfect snack and gift.

I don’t like them real spicy. I heat the oil with the pepper flakes and let it steep for a few minutes. I then strain the flakes out. Perfect amount of heat for me.

Hello folks,
I’ve been making these crackers for about 25 years. I’ve noticed changes over the years. I always use 2 packages of the Ranch seasoning mix. This past weekend I followed this recipe while visiting friends. The minute I tried them, I knew something was different. Please give it a try using 2 packages of Ranch seasoning mix.. I believe you might enjoy it even more.
I’ve also seen the recipes having you put them in the oven. It’s totally not necessary.

I made these and the flavor was amazing, but they were really oily! I subbed vegetable oilā¦ is that why?!
Donya
Hey there Jamie!
Thank you so much for your interest in this recipe! If you give this recipe another try, I would recommend sticking to the original ingredients and see how that turns out, I’ve never had a problem with oiliness so my guess would be that using canola oil instead of veggie oil will be your best bet. Can you use club crackers instead of saltines?
Donya
Hey there Lee!
Yes you absolutely can club crackers! I will tell you, they’re a little more crumbly so some may break, but you can totally give it a try. Let me know how you like this recipe, I hope you have a Happy New Year!

I try to avoid oils. Has anyone tried subbing veggie broth instead of oil??
Donya
Hey there Joni!
That’s a good question! I’ve never tried to use veggie broth instead of oil, but I think that the veggie broth would end up making the crackers soggy if I had to guess. If you wanted to try a healthier option instead of canola oil, you could try using avocado oil or coconut oil. I hope this helps, let me know if you end up trying it, I hope you enjoy!
Best,

I have been making these for years and they are so good! If you want to try using veggie broth, I would experiment by baking them immediately after pouring the mixture on them. Have the oven already preheated, probably 400*. Itās certainly worth a try. This is a very inexpensive recipe. You wonāt be out much if it doesnāt work.

Hey there Dawn!

A co-worker brought these a potluck at work and nowā¦weāve asked her to bring them to every potluck going forward! So delicious and addicting!
Question-can u substitute the oil for butter? Iāve seen a Ritz cracker recipe that used butter instead of oil, but they had to bake them? Iām going to try my hand at these today, but wonāt want to change the recipe if itās going to alter the originalā¦because itās so good!
Donya
Hey there Dawn!
Wow! Thank you so much for your kind words, I am so happy to hear that everyone at your work enjoyed these tasty cracker, they’re definitely a great potluck dish! I’ve tried this recipe with butter before and it does work, but personally I prefer the original more. I would recommend that you try making a batch with oil and another batch with melted butter and see which one you like more, after all, cooking is all about personal preferences. Thank you so much for your kind words of support, please let me know how everything turns out, I hope you enjoy!
