Over the past few months, I’ve been trying to come up with some new, enticing recipes I could serve for dinner. This may not seem like such a daunting task, but I also had a couple of bullet points that had to be checked off. Here are my must-haves:
- The dish must be made in one pot, dish, or pan.
- The recipe needed to be made and served in 45 minutes or less.
What was my new creation? Sheet Pan Hamburger Steak Recipe With Mushrooms And Onions. It’s similar to a classic Salisbury steak recipe but even better!
What Is A Hamburger Steak?
It’s similar to a classic Salisbury steak recipe but even better! It’s made from ground beef which is shaped into a thick patty, then seasoned and served in the manner of a traditional steak.

There are so many good reasons to cook using this simple method. My Sheet Pan Ranch Chicken Thighs and Sheet Pan Brats and Potatoes have become go-to recipes when I want a quick, comfort food dinner without a lot of effort.
Helpful Tips For Sheet Pan Cooking
- Choose a good, sturdy sheet pan. I use this one, which has served me well for several years.
- Choose proteins and veggies with similar cooking times. This ensures all the food is cooked to the proper doneness.
- Make sure to season evenly.
- When you need a bit of extra browning and crisping, turn your broiler on at the end of roasting and broil until your desired level of crispiness is achieved.
Hamburger Steak Recipe Ingredients
- Ground Chuck or Ground Beef – you can also substitute ground turkey if you like.
- Mushrooms – I like to use portabello, but any type of mushroom will work.
- Onions – yellow, Vidalia, or red onions are great to use in this recipe.
- Olive Oil, Butter, Salt and Black Pepper
Ingredient Variations And Ideas
- Garlic powder, onion powder, Worcestershire sauce, and soy sauce add flavor to the ground beef patties.
- Green and red peppers are good to add to the mushrooms and onions.

Notes
- Choose a good, sturdy sheet pan. I use this one, and it has served me well for several years. It’s heavy and does not warp when heated. Line the pan with aluminum foil for easy clean up.
- Make sure to season evenly. I like to sprinkle my veggies with olive oil, salt, and pepper plus any other seasoning, and toss them together with my hands. Then I add my protein and season it separately.
- Place any leftovers in an airtight container and store them in the fridge for up to three days. Reheat in the microwave or the oven in a baking dish.

I made this tonight after a long day hiking. I followed directions and added seasonings that we like. I had fries and roasted veggies in the oven for the same time. Everything came out at the same time and it was a great meal. I will make this again!
Thanks, Tara! So glad you enjoyed the meal. Thank you for the terrific rating and I’m so glad you are cooking with me.

I would add a little extra salt (Accent) to the onion slices first and let sit for a few minutes. It really does sweeten up the onion with an extra layer of flavor.

This sounds AMAZING!!! And seems so wonderfully easy!! What would you recommend to use in place of the mushrooms? (We have a non-mushroom eater here)
Hey Catherine,
You can just leave them out. Or, maybe section on on side of the pan. Mr. SS is not a mushroom guy so I keep them to one side…and keep them all for myself.
Enjoy!

Will this taste good on hamburger buns as well? Or is it a little different and better off the bun?
Give it a try!
