What Is A Hamburger Steak?

It’s similar to a classic Salisbury steak recipe but even better! It’s made from ground beef which is shaped into a thick patty, then seasoned and served in the manner of a traditional steak.

Helpful Tips For Sheet Pan Cooking

  • Choose a good, sturdy sheet pan. I use this one, which has served me well for several years.
  • Choose proteins and veggies with similar cooking times. This ensures all the food is cooked to the proper doneness.
  • Make sure to season evenly.
  • When you need a bit of extra browning and crisping, turn your broiler on at the end of roasting and broil until your desired level of crispiness is achieved.

Hamburger Steak Recipe Ingredients

  • Ground Chuck or Ground Beef – you can also substitute ground turkey if you like.
  • Mushrooms – I like to use portabello, but any type of mushroom will work.
  • Onions – yellow, Vidalia, or red onions are great to use in this recipe.
  • Olive Oil, Butter, Salt and Black Pepper

Ingredient Variations And Ideas

  • Garlic powder, onion powder, Worcestershire sauce, and soy sauce add flavor to the ground beef patties.
  • Green and red peppers are good to add to the mushrooms and onions.

How To Make Hamburger Steak In The Oven

With almost no effort, you’ll have a hearty dinner on the table—cooked on just one pan!

  1. Prep the pan – Heat the oven, line a sheet pan with foil, and lightly coat with cooking spray.
  2. Slice & season veggies – Add mushrooms and onions to the pan, drizzle with olive oil, and season with salt and pepper. Toss to coat.
  3. Form the steaks – Shape the hamburger steaks and place them between the veggies. Sprinkle with a little more salt and pepper.
  4. Bake – Cook for about 25 minutes, until the patties are done and the veggies are tender.
  5. Finish & serve – Top each steak with a pat of butter. Let it melt, then serve with the mushrooms and onions.

Notes

  • Choose a good, sturdy sheet pan. I use this one, and it has served me well for several years. It’s heavy and does not warp when heated. Line the pan with aluminum foil for easy clean up.
  • Make sure to season evenly. I like to sprinkle my veggies with olive oil, salt, and pepper plus any other seasoning, and toss them together with my hands. Then I add my protein and season it separately.
  • Place any leftovers in an airtight container and store them in the fridge for up to three days. Reheat in the microwave or the oven in a baking dish.
