Over the years, I’ve served up lots of game-day food to a house full of guys. But nothing beats crispy chicken wings! My guys and I both love them when they are cooked correctly. The skin should be super crispy, and the meat should be tender and juicy. The great thing is, whether you’re using fresh or frozen chicken wings in the air fryer, you can have delicious and crispy wings using this easy recipe in just minutes.
Why You’ll Love This Recipe
- Quick to Make—The air fryer cooks things by swirling hot air all around. This super-quick process makes it ideal for a quick chicken dinner.
- Juicy and Crispy – Another bonus of the air fryer is that the circulating hot air helps the skin crisp up without drying out the inside.
- Customizable – This recipe is the perfect base for whatever seasonings you like. Flavors like lemon pepper or my all-purpose house seasoning are delicious.
Air Fryer Chicken Wings Ingredients
- Chicken wings are the star of the show here! You can use fresh or frozen wingettes, drumettes, and wing tips.
- I love tossing these in my homemade Montreal steak seasoning. You can also use garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, or chili powder.
- A little salt and pepper help to tenderize the meat and make all the other flavors pop.
Chicken Wing Seasonings
There are usually two camps when it comes to serving chicken wings: wet or dry. As I said, I like them dry and loaded with savory seasoning. But if you like them wet, that’s okay; just add your favorite sauce and enjoy.
- Homemade House Seasoning: This adds a smokey flavor thanks to the paprika.
- Homemade Taco Seasoning: This is great for a Mexican-style dinner spread.
- Sauce: To finish them, toss them in buffalo wing sauce or BBQ sauce. Some of my favorite dipping sauces are Alabama White Sauce, Carolina Gold BBQ Sauce, or Dr. Pepper BBQ Sauce for a punch of smoky flavor.
Step By Step Directions
- Prepare the Chicken: Pat the chicken dry with paper towels. Toss with seasoning in a large bowl.
- Air Fry: Place the chicken wings in 1 layer in the air fryer basket. Cook at 375 degrees for 20 minutes, shaking the basket every 5-8 minutes.
- Air Fry Again: Increase the temperature to 400 degrees and cook for 3 more minutes for that extra crispy skin.
- Finish the Wings: Remove from the air fryer and sprinkle with additional seasoning and salt if desired.
Tips To Make The Best Air Fryer Chicken Wings
- Make sure your wings are dry before cooking. I pat them dry with paper towels and let them sit on the counter for 5 minutes.
- I like to use a dry seasoning mix on my wings. Put the wings in a bowl and sprinkle on whatever seasoning you like.
- Since the chicken skin has enough fat, you do not need to add more oil.
- Cook the chicken in batches. You don’t want to crowd the air fryer basket so that the air can flow freely.
- As the wings cook, shake the basket every 5-8 minutes. Pull out the handle and give the basket a good shake to loosen the wings so that they cook evenly.

Thanks for the recipe! This will be my first try at air frying anything! Are the wings cooked from frozen or do I thaw them first?
Awesome!
Make sure the wings are thawed and wipe them dry with a paper towel. They are going to be great! Keep me posted.
