I know what you’re thinking. How can this dip be any good with only three ingredients? Trust me when I say that this dip turns out super flavorful, even with only three ingredients.
I’ve been making this recipe for over 10 years, and it’s become a tradition at family gatherings. Whenever we get together, the boys rarely ask what I’m cooking. Instead, they have just one question – “Sausage Dip?” And my answer is always, “of course!”
What Makes Crazy Delicious Warm Dip So Special
- This recipe is perfect for feeding a crowd because it can easily be doubled or tripled. It is an outstanding party food and is required at Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers.
- For parties, I serve it in a slow cooker to stay warm. Warm dips like spinach artichoke dip or beef queso dip are served simply in the crock pot. Just make sure to stir them from time to time.
- You can serve it with just about anything, like corn chips, tortilla chips, celery, carrots, or your favorite dippers.
Easy Sausage Dip Ingredients
- Ground Pork Sausage: Like in my Sausage and Cheese Bread, I like the natural flavors pork sausage gives off, so it doesn’t need to be seasoned. Start with a pound and add more if you’d like a meatier dip or need to make more to feed a crowd.
- Cream Cheese: This becomes the creamy base of the dip. You can also substitute Velveeta or cheddar cheese, but know that the texture may change somewhat.
- Rotel Tomatoes and Chilies: This deliciousness is where your spicy kick will come from, and it adds just the right amount of heat.
Additions and Variations
- If you want to up the spice of your sausage dip, you can easily add a can of hot Rotel or use hot pork sausage.
- The meat option can be easily substituted with ground beef, turkey, or meatless crumbles.
- You can also play around with flavors, such as adding a bit of maple syrup to the sausage while cooking for a subtle sweet taste or extra cheese (shredded) for an even cheesier finish.
How to Make Sausage Cream Cheese Dip
- 1. Brown sausage in a large skillet, then drain to remove excess grease and crumble. Remove any leftover sausage drippings from the pan.
- 2. Add cream cheese, tomato, and chilies into a pan set on medium-low heat. Stir until cream cheese is melted.
- 3. Add crumbled sausage and mix thoroughly.
- 4. Serve with tortilla chips or other dippers of your choice.
Questions And Answers For Sausage Dip With Rotel
A can of diced tomatoes can be substituted; however, they don’t carry as much flavor as Rotel. Try using a can of tomatoes with flavors like fire-roasted or garlic and herb. A jar of salsa is also another tasty substitution.
Yes! You can make it and warm it up about 30 minutes before you’re ready to serve it.
It should. However, if you need to liquefy it, add a milk splash.
If you happen to have leftovers, pour the remaining dip into an airtight container and store it in the fridge for up to three days.

I’ve been making this for years. We use hot sausage and hot rotel along with diced green onions and sliced black olives. We add both in the end and just heat it up.

Your sausage dip looks so very good. I have a question, is this real spicy? I used the Rotel tomatoes and chilis one time in a different recipe and it was very hot and spicy. Is this the case with that or no? I just love your recipes and want to thank you for all your work in providing them to all of us. Just delish….. Big hugs to you….Claudia

Oh, Claudia! This just puts a big ‘ol smile on my face. As far as the sausage dip, Rotel makes different levels of heat in their tomatoes/chilies now, so you could use the mild ones in the dip. You’ll still have all the yummy flavor without the heat.
I am so happy that you like the recipes and thank you for your kind words. A big hug right back to you!
XO,
