If you love french fries then you are going to go crazy over these Air Fryer Potato Wedges. They are super easy to make with russet potatoes, a few simple seasonings and an air fryer.
I’m always on the lookout for any recipe that uses healthy alternatives whether in the ingredients used or the cooking method. That’s what’s happing here. This recipe is lower in fat using very little oil yet by using the air fryer the potato wedges turn out perfectly.
How To Make The BEST Air Fryer Potato Wedges
- Start by picking the right potato. Russet potatoes work best in this recipe. They have a high starch content making them great for french fries and wedges.
- Soak the potatoes in cold water to aid in making them extra crispy. This helps remove some of the starch from the potatoes.
- Season the wedges before cooking. I use a simple blend of salt, garlic powder, paprika, and a little pepper for just the right amount of flavor.
- Use an air fryer to make the potatoes crispy.
- Finish things off with a big sprinkle of Parmesan cheese and chopped fresh parsley for an extra kick of flavor.
Ingredients For This Recipe
- Russet Potatoes
- Olive Oil
- Garlic Powder
- Paprika
- Salt and Pepper
- Parmesan Cheese
- Fresh Parsley
What Is An Air Fryer And How Does It Work
An air fryer is a kitchen appliance that replicates the crispy texture of deep-fried food using a fraction of the oil. It works by circulating hot air around the food at high speed, creating a convection effect.
The food is cooked by the intense heat and rapid air movement, resulting in a crispy exterior while maintaining moistness inside. In the context of this blog post, the air fryer is used to cook potato wedges with less oil and achieve a crispy texture, making them a healthier alternative to deep-frying.
How To Cut Potatoes Into Wedges
For this, you’ll need two kitchen tools, a sharp knife and a cutting board.
- First, cut the potato in half lengthwise.
- Lay the potato halves, cut side down on the cutting board, and slice in half once more.
- Lastly, flip each quartered potato over and carefully slice down the middle to make wedges.
The number of wedges you’ll have depends on the size of the potato.

Commonly Asked Questions
An air fryer cooks food faster than a convection oven due to its compact size and efficient air circulation. It also uses less energy, and the smaller cooking space helps to concentrate the heat, resulting in crispier potato wedges.
Absolutely! Reheat leftover potato wedges in the air fryer for a few minutes at a lower temperature to regain their crispiness. Keep an eye on them to prevent overcooking.
To prevent sticking, lightly spray the air fryer basket with cooking spray or toss the potato wedges in a small amount of oil before air frying. This helps create a non-stick surface and promotes crispiness.

As always, another fantastic, easy Donya recipe. These are so soft on the inside and they aren’t burnt like other AF potato wedges recipes I’ve made. This is my number one for wedges. Thank you.
Question for you, Donya, please? I’m just learning how tasty paprika is to use as a spice. I cook using sweet or smoked, sometimes both. However, most recipes list ‘paprika’ and I don’t know which paprika to use, the sweet or smoked? Your recipe uses ‘paprika’ so I’m guessing it’s sweet paprika? Or, do you think that it really doesn’t matter and it’s just a personal taste?
Donya
Hey there Ryan!
Thank you so much for this phenomenal rating and your kind words of support, I am so glad you enjoyed this recipe! Paprika is definitely a favorite spice of mine as well, it’s so versatile you can put it in practically any savory dish. Whether you use smoked paprika or sweet paprika is completely up to you, it’s just personal taste. I tend to use smoked paprika more often, I think it give an additional layer of flavor, but that’s just my personal taste. I hope this helps, thank you so much for your support!
